    Enhanced Data Quality in Global Rollouts with Factory Navigator

    BearingPoint is assisting one of the world's leading automotive suppliers in the roll-out of a global SAP template solution to the European, North American and Asia Pacific plants. The full program scope includes more than 135 locations in 5 major phases and aims at transitioning heterogeneous businesses and divisions into a single best-in-class and globally harmonized business process template based on a single SAP platform.

    Excellence in master data quality has been acknowledged as a key success factor in this program for successful and efficient roll-outs. Typically, challenges in these template roll-outs are caused by insufficient master data quality. Roll-out challenges of this kind drive costs considerably, disturb the time plan of subsequent roll-outs, and could even lead to unplanned production disruptions or delays in distribution. BearingPoint assists this and other clients in reducing the risk of SAP template roll-outs by systematically measuring and controlling the master data quality using the BearingPoint Factory Navigator solution. As a result, master data problems are identified and solved early in the roll-out process - before potentially severe problems arise. Global dashboards create the desired transparency. The cost of a roll-out and the time-related risk can be reduced significantly. Based on the success of pilot implementations, the Factory Navigator will be a global project standard for future plants in this client’s program.

    Data quality is only 1 out of 4 components of the Factory Navigator tool. Once set-up, the Factory Navigator can deploy its’ full potential featuring the other 3 components Factory Optimization, Factory Simulation and IOT services.     Goodyear like other large global organizations with rich and long SAP heritages entered into the S/4 drive by visioning a new end state target where regionally deployed finance processes became standardized and migrated to a S/4 Central Finance solution. The voyage began in 2016 with two projects, MDG-Finance and Central Finance on S/4. Today they have globalized and governed financial company codes, cost centers, and GL accounts serving the Global Goodyear finance functions and processes. Goodyear's approach followed a simple method.







    1. Technical Build:


    • Delivery of Central Finance platform

    • Global Financial transactions posted using Global harmonized master data

    • Master data governance of finance objects

    Cybersecurity, Information and Systems Security are in the news daily. These issues are frequently cited as the top risks facing Corporate America

    If the recent election and lead up to it wasn’t enough to elevate awareness of the subject, then consider this:

    • The average cost for a data breach for American companies grew to $4m per incident

    • More than 80% of U.S. companies have been successfully hacked and have lost critical data

    • The Department of Homeland Security recently listed Cybersecurity as the top threat that American businesses face


    The transportation sector has not been immune from cyber-attacks. The IT infrastructure in vehicles has expanded significantly along with associated cyber risks. Idaho National Laboratory has on-going research on mitigating vulnerabilities to vehicles and how to mitigate risks moving forward with vehicle-to-vehicle communications increasing. There are lessons learned from this research for the automobile sector and businesses supporting this sector.

    While corporations and government entities continue to invest heavily in firewalls and protective software for IT infrastructure - a simple more insidious method of gaining access to critical data/intellectual property is more likely to be responsible; well-intentioned employees inadvertently opening the door without knowledge or intent.

    COSMIC is part of BMW’s strategy to move all SAP systems to HANA, which had its first go live of a S4HANA system on May 1st.  The project steers the worldwide inventory management of vehicles as well as the worldwide vehicle and motorcycle invoicing covering different distribution channels like direct sales (new business Model for BMW), sales to dealers, importers, special customers.  It has all information about each single car- the pricing, where its coming from, where it is going to, cost of retail etc.  BMW expects about 400,000 vehicle updates per day coming from vehicle ordering and production systems which will be fully automated.

    Borg Warner Turbo Systems had an issue on getting a return from investments on business improvement projects.  Projects were often initiated and driven from a local perspective driving processes, master data and system configurations into local autonomous solutions. And too often, the initiators went straight to IT for a fast solution, therefore projects were mostly driven from a technical aspect and the business engagement was very low.   To change this, Borg Warner Turbos established a strategic function at global level, called IBP (Integrated Business Planning), with the objective to drive global consistency at site level and across sites and to bring the business and the IT groups closer together.

    The objects of the project were to:

    • Harmonize processes, master data and SAP usage across autonomous sites

    • Better exploiting functionality in existing SAP technology

    • Leverage knowledge over all plants

    • Have people to work in collaborative “process aligned teams”

    • Ensure production activities are aligned with capacity constraints, customer service demands, and material supply

    • Improve buying patterns to optimize inventory levels and reduce stress on suppliers

    • Use business analytics to validate that results are improving.


    Since its inception the project has produced great results so now the IBP Team continues their journey and addresses other areas where standardization and harmonization is needed. Areas that are being currently being address are:

    • Plant Maintenance

    • MES for OEE and Traceability

    • Engineering interface – Product Lifecycle Management, Early BoM to Manufacturing

    • Program Budget Tracking – Financial control over our Programs

    • Prototype Process

    Realizing True Efficiency: Using Reporting to Achieve Real-time Global Enablement

    Attend this session to hear about how Wabco is able to achieve real time inbound and outbound transactions and realize their true efficiencies in reporting and planning.  They have one SAP tunnel to support all e-commerce data that is transported between customers and in their supply chain.  The file transport fully enables data in different format types (XML, iDOC, CSV) and is easily traceability with IDOC as a control number for outbound transactions.  Discover ways to differentiate for inbound transactions (file naming) and reduce risk both internal and external by implementing redundant functionalities.

    The business side at RUSH Enterprises was manually pushing approximately 100 different reports to the department managers asking them each to be reviewed and acted upon.  This was very labor intensive, the managers needed to open the emails and the attached report, then look into the issue, or not if their department was performing fine on that KPI.  Thus our goal was to transform from a push culture to a pull culture where we made it easy for department managers to pull all the KPI’s in a single location as well as giving them easier indicators of status of each KPI.  Using BW and Design studio we developed a single launching point for all reports as well as department dashboards giving department managers one place to check KPI’s and KPI status.  With this we provide the specific informtion from KPI on dashboard to detailed reports as required.

    Reducing Supplier Business Complexity

    SAP recently launched a pre-configured auto supplier solution on the on-prem SAP S/4 HANA release with Capgemini. The solution is part of the joint program called Fast Digital for Discrete Industries (FD4) designed to help manufacturers implement cloud-based S/4 solutions as they manage their digital transformations. The auto supplier solution on release is targeted for companies serving in the Tier-1 segment (approximately in >500M and < 2B revenue size). This solution is offered on a private cloud in a single tenant model and can support the complexities of Tier-1 business model: Sequencing, Kanban, RAN, Forecast/JIT EDI and OEM labeling.

    The "DBM Evolution" in SAP S/4 HANA

    Established in 1898, Jaidah Group in Qatar has been a recognized force of trade for over 100 years. The Jaidah Group now boasts an array of divisions including its locally renowned automotive sector, heavy equipment, technology, energy, industrial supply and furniture sectors.




    To managing the wide portfolio of different processes and industries, Jaidah Group deployed SAP S/4 HANA on premise in early 2017.  That S/4 instance is still managing the entire operations of commercial vehicles such as ISUZU and YUTONG with real-time integration into the corporate business processes. However, the retail passenger car business is on independent DMS solutions with limited or at least delayed integration into finance and analytics. To overcome this obstacle Jaidah Group decided to have a crack onto S/4 HANA for automotive retail, even though SAP DBM is not migrated to S/4 as a product. Hear and learn about the experience Jaidah Group made so far with the “DBM evolution” in SAP S/4 HANA and what is planned next to support the Hyundai/Genesis and GMC brands.




    The proposed future roadmap for Jaidah Automotive in alignment with roadmap for S/4 HANA Digital core, especially those related to Customer Management, will also be discussed.
