The Networked Future: How to Make Mobility Data Work for Consumers & Businesses

Sep 12 2018, 8:15 AM

Today, only a tiny fraction of information from connected vehicles and people is put to work. Will current disconnected models lead to fair and truly networked mobility and networked business? Only those who can think and act like master curators will win.  These providers will organize, orchestrate and manage an ecosystem of value added services.  What are transformative ways to help both traditional players and new market entrants to fully leverage this connected economy?

  1. A neutral mobility platform that orchestrates data flows from consumers, auto manufacturers and service providers. This digital spine ensures that information is sourced, transmitted and delivered securely.
  2. A mobility business network that enables parties to seamlessly interact and transact on a trusted marketplace. That includes seamless execution of complex billing and secure payment transactions.
  3. A customer experience that leads to increased engagement, satisfaction and loyalty. State-of-the-art technology allows to re-think, optimize and automate processes, and to power entirely new business models.
Attend this keynote to hear how these solutions enable both automotive companies and a variety of service providers to interact, unlock new revenue streams, increase margins and earn customers’ loyalty.

Adient’s objective was to reduce the time to deliver new, competitive business solutions and increase the collaboration between its business and IT departments to enhance adoption of new applications, while reducing change requests and training costs. To address this opportunity, Adient has adopted SAP Fiori User Experience (UX) leveraging an Agile methodology. Through this project, business users, process designers and the CoE delivery team are brought together to re-engineer business processes through technology. This innovative delivery model is based on Agile methodology and runs in four-week sprints, assuring new applications and changes will engage business stakeholders and integrate with the company culture, while reducing the time to market.

Key Business Benefits:

  1. New apps or features are delivered to the business every 4 weeks, satisfying business needs faster than traditional delivery models.
  2. The digitalization of traditionally time-consuming manual Excel or email based processes into mobile ready and easy-to-use APPs based on SAP Fiori has allowed Adient business users and IT teams to focus on more strategic activities and objectives.
  3. Collaboration based activity – Involvement of key stakeholders from beginning to end has allowed Adient to control the budget and timeline thanks to shared ownership. The applications themselves have had a high acceptance rate among the business users they are designed for.

Navigating Maquiladoras & the Current NAFTA Environment: Your SAP & Financial Systems

Sep 12 2018, 1:30 PM

Even though the Maquiladora form of doing business in Mexico has been in place since the 1960s, it still presents unique systems challenges.  The fact that factory assets, inventories and tooling are owned in one country, but physically located in another country presents legal entity, financial reporting, and tax challenges to name a few.  Therefore IT systems have to support tracking for customs purposes (especially in today's uncertain NAFTA environment), for income tax and transfer pricing purposes, which all have to supplement the regular business tradeflow reporting for financial statement and management purposes.  Historical systems approaches tended to focus on financial statement reporting supplemented by a plethora of spreadsheets and man-hours to provide financial statements, management reporting, customs and tax requirements.   We'll introduce how today's SAP systems offer the capability to meet the critical needs of all users on a cost-efficient basis in this common form of business. We’ll share different automotive customer stories and examples.

Key Business Benefits:

  • Understand the current risks and opportunities with Maquiladoras for your organization in the uncertain NAFTA environment
  • Discover how to leverage your SAP systems to manage your tax liabilities related to Maquiladoras
  • Gain insights to alignment of your systems functions with your Global/Regional Tax and Finance Organizations

Cybersecurity & Effective Protection of Corporate Assets

Sep 12 2018, 2:20 PM

Cybersecurity, Information and Systems Security are in the news daily. These issues are frequently cited as the top risks facing Corporate America If the recent election and lead up to it wasn’t enough to elevate awareness of the subject, then consider this:

  • The average cost for a data breach for American companies grew to $4m per incident
  • More than 80% of U.S. companies have been successfully hacked and have lost critical data
  • The Department of Homeland Security recently listed Cybersecurity as the top threat that American businesses face
The transportation sector has not been immune from cyber-attacks. The IT infrastructure in vehicles has expanded significantly along with associated cyber risks. Idaho National Laboratory has on-going research on mitigating vulnerabilities to vehicles and how to mitigate risks moving forward with vehicle-to-vehicle communications increasing. There are lessons learned from this research for the automobile sector and businesses supporting this sector. While corporations and government entities continue to invest heavily in firewalls and protective software for IT infrastructure - a simple more insidious method of gaining access to critical data/intellectual property is more likely to be responsible; well-intentioned employees inadvertently opening the door without knowledge or intent. Participants will leave this presentation with:
  • An understanding of the digital threat landscape to transportation and businesses
  • An understanding of the most common methods that cyber criminals use to access proprietary systems, data and intellectual property
  • The steps needed to mitigate the risks associated with cyber crime

Structuring Success; Harnessing Trusted Answers & Technology Across Regulatory Landscapes to Drive Competitive Growth

Sep 12 2018, 3:10 PM

Today’s automotive strategies include a mix of sustainable fuel sources, portfolio re-examination, sales channel optimization through fleet and subscription based models, connected vehicles including components of self-driving and mobile commerce, and value chain evolution.  The common thread across many, if not all, of these trends is the propensity for M&A, joint ventures, and partnerships to expedite results.  The undercurrent dictating the terms for these events are Tax and Legal regulations.  Trade customs and tariffs and income taxes can erode even the most aspirational profits to unattractive levels.  JV and partnership agreements dictate terms and speed of innovation.  Further, the location of assets like IP face even greater scrutiny in the world of transfer pricing thanks to the OECD’s Base Erosion Profit Sharing, which can influence the appeal of partnering in one region or another.  As with everything else, Tax and Legal data face enormous risk and opportunity at the hands of blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, RPA, and data privacy.

Key Business Benefits:

  • Global regulatory compliance to avoid penalties and maximize profits
  • Competitive advantage gained through integrating tax, legal, IT, and finance
  • Understand how blockchain, AI, and data privacy technology impact business critical data

Transforming All Spend to Drive Greater and More Sustainable Value

Sep 13 2018, 11:30 AM

One of the biggest challenges enterprises face in their procurement transformation journeys is addressing multiple spend types across disparate systems. Join this session to learn how a leading manufacturer of material handling equipment, Raymond Corporation is using SAP Ariba solutions to consolidate both production and nonproduction spend onto one strategic platform, replacing a homegrown solution. Key Business Benefits

  • Growth: Raymond Corporation has been on a growth trajectory for several years. Raymond’s supply chain and procurement leadership sought to support this growth by standardizing their sourcing and spend analysis processes across all of their spend – including direct materials, indirect materials, and services spend – and to extend these processes to their supplier community with SAP Ariba solutions.
  • Speed: Raymond Corporation has integrated its product lifecycle management (PLM) solution with its SAP Ariba sourcing solution. Now engineering change orders (ECOs) and engineering drawings can both be sent to suppliers automatically from the PLM, together with the request for quotation (RFQ). This allows for early costing of their products.w
  • Efficiency: This PLM integration also ensures that any changes in specifications are automatically sent to suppliers. This offers great efficiency, as Raymond works with about 400 production suppliers. Raymond’s sourcing team also awards business through the SAP Ariba sourcing solution.

Driving Standardization & Harmonization within BorgWarner Turbo Systems

Sep 13 2018, 12:20 PM

Borg Warner Turbo Systems had an issue on getting a return from investments on business improvement projects.  Projects were often initiated and driven from a local perspective driving processes, master data and system configurations into local autonomous solutions. And too often, the initiators went straight to IT for a fast solution, therefore projects were mostly driven from a technical aspect and the business engagement was very low.   To change this, Borg Warner Turbos established a strategic function at global level, called IBP (Integrated Business Planning), with the objective to drive global consistency at site level and across sites and to bring the business and the IT groups closer together. The objects of the project were to:

  • Harmonize processes, master data and SAP usage across autonomous sites
  • Better exploiting functionality in existing SAP technology
  • Leverage knowledge over all plants
  • Have people to work in collaborative “process aligned teams”
  • Ensure production activities are aligned with capacity constraints, customer service demands, and material supply
  • Improve buying patterns to optimize inventory levels and reduce stress on suppliers
  • Use business analytics to validate that results are improving.
Since its inception the project has produced great results so now the IBP Team continues their journey and addresses other areas where standardization and harmonization is needed. Areas that are being currently being address are:
  • Plant Maintenance
  • MES for OEE and Traceability
  • Engineering interface – Product Lifecycle Management, Early BoM to Manufacturing
  • Program Budget Tracking – Financial control over our Programs
  • Prototype Process
Come hear about BorgWarner’s journey, their learnings so far and how you too can start your journey and make greater profits, deliver a drop-in inventory and vastly improve your customer service.

Speed Up Your SAP Rollout Without Getting Caught in Data Risks

Sep 13 2018, 12:20 PM

The automotive industry is in the middle of a worldwide overhaul led by product innovations, transformative government legislation as well as an agile manufacturing process based on templates and platforms. Most automotive companies using SAP for their operational excellence, are on the constant move to keep up all the above transformations happening in their company.

Now, the IT departments have to play catch up with business and production on the agile and lean agenda. This has resulted in a rush of data conversion activities to be completed in the SAP environment, urgently. However, data teams are tasked with converting a variety of ERP and Manufacturing application data into their core SAP application, though they lack modern tools and approaches. The mandate of rapid completion, predictable results and data integrity is too rough on the existing teams, tools and practices. This presentation will share a clear and executable road map, complete with turn-by-turn directions for avoiding inconsistent data potholes, test cycle detours and cut-over breakdowns.

The case study of Cooper Standard’s roll-out will be shared as an example of leveraging automotive-specific data conversion templates to enable an agile execution process, leading to project cost reduction and automation with predictable data quality results.

Dealership Dashboards: Managing Through KPI's

Sep 13 2018, 2:00 PM

The business side at RUSH Enterprises was manually pushing approximately 100 different reports to the department managers asking them each to be reviewed and acted upon.  This was very labor intensive, the managers needed to open the emails and the attached report, then look into the issue, or not if their department was performing fine on that KPI.  Thus our goal was to transform from a push culture to a pull culture where we made it easy for department managers to pull all the KPI’s in a single location as well as giving them easier indicators of status of each KPI.  Using BW and Design studio we developed a single launching point for all reports as well as department dashboards giving department managers one place to check KPI’s and KPI status.  With this we provide the specific informtion from KPI on dashboard to detailed reports as required.

Key Business Benefits:

  • Time savings for the department manager with an easy place to see all KPI's
  • Ability to easily provide executives KPI status for all stores or a regional grouping of stores
  • Improvements in financial performance due easier abiility to find where a manager needs to focus attention

Reliably Planning for Irregular Demand: IBP Improves S&OP at Yazaki

Sep 13 2018, 2:50 PM

A global automotive parts supplier, Yazaki Corporation, has a technology landscape involving a multitude of systems to support their end-to-end planning process. Each systems has its unique purpose in the landscape and all work independently to support their functions which include sales, demand, manufacturing, engineering change management, etc. The challenge for Yazaki’s S&OP process was to harmonize a single end-to-end data set for planning purposes and to establish predictive KPI’s to remove potential supply barriers. Over the past 6 years they have struggled trying to implement a robust S&OP which has been primarily based on individual spreadsheet. These challenges were characterized by a disjointed planning process that was primarily demand driven, forcing supply to constantly act reactively. Yazaki has selected the IBP S&OP tool to address these challenges and provide a robust platform to perform S&OP Planning. They have launched the beginnings of this tool in Mexico to acquaint users with the new tools and begin making business decisions based on this data in a controlled environment.  Join Dave Weinkauf as he describes the planning and implementation of the IBP tools and explores how Yazaki chose to address the reliably irregular demand of their customers and achieve improved decision making, increased efficiency, and enhanced mid to long term planning.

Deploying Metrics that Actually Improve Shop-floor Performance

Sep 13 2018, 2:50 PM

New systems, the “Internet of things,” and eager engineers are collecting and processing vast amounts of operating data supposedly “supporting” front-line decision making. This has been a mixed blessing. First, workers are rarely given an effective management operating system (MOS) to take advantage of the new information. Second, this new information is often too “ivory tower;” not what the front-line workers really need to do better. Proudfoot has proven techniques to work with firms. This presentation will give you an approach to involve front-line supervisors to create focused metrics that truly unlock higher performance – lower costs, higher quality, and smoother operations.

Key Business Benefits:

  • Better front-line decisions: right amount of data, right when it’s needed, in an actionable format
  • More engaged workforce: that contribute in design of the metrics and reporting

Navigating Maquiladoras & the Current NAFTA Environment: Your SAP & Financial Systems

Cybersecurity & Effective Protection of Corporate Assets

Cybersecurity, Information and Systems Security are in the news daily. These issues are frequently cited as the top risks facing Corporate America

If the recent election and lead up to it wasn’t enough to elevate awareness of the subject, then consider this:

Driving Standardization & Harmonization within BorgWarner Turbo Systems

Reliably Planning for Irregular Demand: IBP Improves S&OP at Yazaki
